Welcome to the Small Business Procurement Services web pages. These pages are intended to assist you in obtaining goods and services from small businesses and help build a supplier base that is representative of Rensselaer's diversity initiatives and consistent with Federal mandates.

In July of 2000, President Shirley Ann Jackson endorsed Rensselaer's Small Business Policy and distributed it to Deans, Directors, and Department Chairs with copies to the President's Cabinet. The policy expresses Rensselaer's commitment to take proactive measures to include the small business community in our procurement processes. This includes both research and non-research procurements.

In March of 2001, Dr. Arthur Sanderson, Vice President for Research issued a letter to the Research Community, expressing his support for increased involvement in research activity by small business concerns. The term "small business" includes disadvantaged, women-owned, minority, veteran-disabled, and HUBZone businesses. (Definitions)

We hope to answer some of your questions and concerns and dispel some misconceptions about small business programs.

To locate Small Disadvantaged, HUBZone, Veteran Disabled, and other small businesses certified by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), go to SBA's searchable database, ProNet.

To locate Minority and Women-owned small businesses certified by New York State, go to NYS Economic Development's searchable database.

The Resources page provides links to other useful sites and, of course, your Purchasing Department is always available for assistance.

We hope that you will visit this site frequently and become familiar with its contents. It will require cooperation and effort by all of us to develop a successful Small Business Program.
